Gerard G. Jansen Jr. December 31, 1930 – September 16, 2020

Gerard G. Jansen Jr, 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at his home in Brunswick, MO.  Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MO on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 10:00 A.M.  Pastor Theiss will officiate the service.  Visitation will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 P.M.  Burial will be in Newcomer Cemetery in Mendon, MO.

Gerard was born on December 31, 1930 in Keytesville, MO, the son of Gerard and Ina (Anderson) Jansen.  He graduated from Keytesville High School in 1948 as the class Salutatorian.  On April 2, 1952 Gerard enlisted in the United States Army.  During the Korean War Gerard served in the 64th Field Artillery Battalion.  During his service he earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, Two Overseas Bars, the National Defense Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  He honorably served his country until he was released from active duty on February 27, 1954.

On June 4, 1955 Gerard was united in marriage to Margie Feitz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO.  Together they were blessed with four children, Brenda, Greta, Kenneth, and Larry.  Gerard worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, MO as a machinist for 35 years and was also a part-time farmer.  He loved his family, gardening, and pitching in the church’s fast pitch softball league.

Gerard was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, held several offices in the church, was a leader of Lutheran Braille Workers, and was highly active at the Chariton County Cupboard.

Gerard is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Margie; two children, Brenda Gunn and her husband Kirk of Brunswick, MO and Greta Williams and her husband Tony of Menomonee Falls, WI; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Gunn of Kearney, MO, David Gunn of Warrensburg, MO, Elizabeth Cravens and her husband Adam of Salisbury, MO, Allen Williams and his wife Danielle of Sussex, WI, Nathan Williams of Utica, NY, Kerrie Rich and her husband Marcus of Sweet Springs, MO, Mitchell Pittman and his wife Taylor of Columbia, MO, and Lydia Jansen of Brookfield, MO; eight great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Marlene Leimkuehler of Fayette, MO, Sylvia Whaley and her husband John of Cameron, MO, and Carol Jansen and his wife Mary of Omaha, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerard Sr and Ina Jansen; two sons, Larry Jansen and Kenneth Jansen; two sisters, Gleva Bondy and Erna Straub; four brothers-in-law, Alfred Bondy, Leo Straub, Elmer Leimkuehler, and Maurice Feitz; and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Jansen.

Pallbearers will be David Gunn, Allen Williams, Dan Smith, Dick Davis, Butch Schuchmann, and Brandon Leimkuehler.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Chariton County Cupboard or St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
