Vicki Lee (Kahler) Spence August 30, 1944 – June 18, 2020

Vicki Lee (Kahler) Spence, 75, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.  A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MO on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 11:00 A.M.  Pastor Theiss will officiate the service.  Visitation will precede the service at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.  Burial will be in Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, MO.

Vicki was born on August 30, 1944, in Triplett, MO, the daughter of Clifford and Anna Lee (Duffield) Kahler.  Vicki graduated from Keytesville High School in 1962.  She married James Spence on December 31, 1964 in Oklahoma, and together they were blessed with three children, Robert, Elizabeth, and Melissa.

After high school Vicki went on to earn her cosmetology license from Moberly Beauty Academy in Moberly, MO and later obtained her real estate license.  Vicki was an entrepreneur at heart.  To pay for school Vicki started her own business baking wedding cakes, she ran her own beauty shop for more than 47 years, and sold real estate for 36 years, selling over 100 houses in the Brunswick area, even selling some homes more than once.

Vicki was a member of the American Daughters of the Revolution, a member of bridge club, she held many offices for the Keytesville Alumni Association, the American Legion Historian, a 4-H Leader, a member of the church choir, and a member of the community choir.  She started the Red Hatters and helped create the Brunswick Pecan Festival.  Vicki loved her family and friends, cooking, gardening, and playing cards.  She would take her friends to doctor’s appointments and take food to those in need.  She was a faithful member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Vicki is survived by her beloved husband of the home, James; three children, Robert Lee Spence and his wife Kimberly of Miami, MO, Elizabeth Smith and her husband Douglas of Carrollton, MO, and Melissa Reynolds and her husband Bryan of Brunswick, MO; and three siblings, Dr. Marsha Kerr and her husband Dr. David Kerr of St. Louis, MO, Rebecca Palmer and her husband Jim of Greenwood, MO, and William Kahler and his wife Karen of Warsaw, MO; Vicki is also survived by several grandchildren and lots of great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Reische, Lucas Reische, Ryan Shields, and Dallas Spence.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to “Family Choice” or to Breshears Memorial Chapel to help pay for final expenses.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
