Vernon “Weinie” Meyer

Vernon Henry “Weinie” Meyer, 98, of Brunswick, MO died on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Brunswick Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Brunswick, MO, Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. Reverend Rob Fields officiating. Visitation will be at the Breshears Memorial Chapel, Brunswick, MO, Thursday, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Rosary will be said at 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Brunswick, MO. He was born on December 20, 1913 in Chariton County, MO the son of Julius O. and Sophia Straub Meyer. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1931 and was married to Madeline Boyer on June 28, 1934 in Carrollton, MO. Madeline preceded him in death on December 15, 1995. Weinie was the founder and owner of the Brunswick Sale Company at Brunswick, MO for fifty years, and also raised livestock. Earlier he had worked as a bread truck driver. He was a member of the Missouri Cattleman’s Association, a charter member of the Brunswick Knights of Columbus and a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Brunswick, MO. He is survived by three children, David (Judy) Meyer of Tucson, AZ, Donnie (Joyce) Meyer of Brunswick, MO and Carol Fugett of Columbia, MO; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Meyer of Brunswick, MO; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Kelly) Meyer, Jeanette VanNoord, Shelle (Danny) Johnson, Shawn (Tiffany) Meyer, Stacy Jones, Shelby (Megan) Meyer and Amy (Brad) Finkbiner; and great-grandchildren,  Elliot Meyer, Alex and Ryan Jones, Elise VanNoord, Cadence, Evan, Peyton and Zane Meyer. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Larry Meyer, one granddaughter, Shirley Meyer and his dear friend Mildred Hilderbrand. Pallbearers will be , Kevin, Shawn, Shelby and Elliot Meyer, Brad Finkbiner and Alex Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Kussman, Bill White, Jack Clements, JoAnn Ousley, Tony Meyer, Myron Pearman, Mrs. Ralph (Pat) Meyer, Marcie Lock, Sam Johnson, George Henke, Vince Straub, Dr. John Widmer, Gene Gooch, Eddie Smock, Ken Gilkeson and Dr. J.W. Gamby. Memorials may be made to: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery or Brunswick Nursing Home and may be left at or mailed to: Brehears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO 65236.
