Donald Ray Riddle, Sr. September 20, 1943 – January 9, 2020

Donald Ray Riddle, Sr., 76, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.  Funeral services will be held at the Brunswick High School in Brunswick, MO on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 2:00 P.M.  Mark Schuchmann and Reverend Lanny Lybarger will officiate the service.  Visitation will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.  Burial will be held at North Salem Cemetery in North Salem, MO.

Donald was born on September 20, 1943, the son of Oral Eldon and Reba (Janes) Riddle.  Donald graduated from Milan High School in Milan, MO in 1961.  From 1961-1962 Donald attended drafting school in Kansas City, MO.  In the fall of 1962, he began attending Truman State University in Kirksville, MO.  In 1966, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education, and in 1979, Donald earned his master’s degree in Watercolor, also from Truman State.

On August 7, 1965, Donald was united in marriage to Mary Streett in Ravanna, MO.  Together they were blessed with two children, Michele and Donald Jr.

Donald taught art at Brunswick R-II for 30 years until his retirement in 1996.  He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a member of the North Salem Cemetery board, a local scout master, served as district chairman for Great Rivers Council B.S.A.,  and was a member of the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Foundation. He served many years on the Brunswick Tree City board. Donald was a member of the Brunswick Christian Church, was a lay minister, and served on their board for 50 years.  He loved spending time with friends and family, camping, fishing, loved making knives, painting, tinkering, and telling stories.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Mary; his two children, Michele “Shelly” Lea Monnig and her husband Mitch of Columbia, MD and Donald Ray Riddle, Jr. of Columbia, MO; his mother, Reba Skinner of Brunswick, MO; four grandchildren, Stephen Mitchell Monnig and his wife Hanne of Aarschot, Belgium, Hanna Nichole Rippee and her husband Justen of Rogersville, MO, Kathryn Louise Monnig of Columbia, MD, and Nathan Edward Riddle of Centralia, MO; and three siblings, Kathy Knight of Rockford, IL, Roy Riddle and his wife Connie of Bethany, MO, and Marty Lehnhoff and her husband Kent of Osceola, MO.  Donald was also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and his best friend, Ted Brantner of Austin, TX.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Oral, and two brothers-in-law, Douglas Knight and Carl Moore.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Riddle, Mitch Monnig, Ronnie Miles, Al Browne, Chris Sanders, and Butch Schuchmann.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Streett, Todd Streett, Kenneth Janes, Ted Brantner, John Sanders, and Wayne Hardwick.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Brunswick Christian Church (Foundation Fund).  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
