Gerald Kent Adkins January 10, 1937 – May 20, 2019

Gerald Kent Adkins, 82, of Pleasant Hill, MO entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 20, 2019 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, MO surrounded by family.  Funeral services will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 P.M.  Burial will be in Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, MO.

Kent, as he was known by his friends and family, was born on January 10, 1937 in Brunswick, MO, the son of George Gerald and Frankie Evelyn (Meyer) Adkins.  Kent graduated from Brunswick High School in Brunswick, MO and attended Longview Community College.  On September 27, 1969, Kent was united in marriage to Kathy C. Kuester.  Together they raised four boys, Ron, Jerry, Jason, and Michael.

Kent was a meat cutter for over 35 years, owned the Country Barbecue for several years, owned and operated Adkins Mowing for 20 years, and worked for Albert’s Reality as a realtor for more than 15 years.

Above all, he loved cooking for and spending time with his family, fishing, being outside, and watching movies. He was a member of the Meat Cutter’s Union, a Scout Master, and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Kent attended the Brunswick Methodist Church in Brunswick, MO, was a member of the Lone Jack Christian Church, and was a member of the Community Church in Kansas City, MO.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elsie Mae Doyle, and his stepdaughter, Debbie Edwards.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathy; four sons, Ron (wife Pascale) Edwards of Daytona Beach, FL, Jerry (wife Jennifer) Adkins of Warsaw, MO, Jason Adkins of Greenwood, MO, and Michael (wife Brenda) Adkins of Pleasant Hill, MO; one sister, Wanda Wages of Denver, CO; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  Kent is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ron Edwards, Ronald W Edwards, Jerry Adkins, Blake Adkins, Cory Adkins, Jimmy Adkins, Chad Wages, and Randy Meyer.  Honorary pallbearers are Leo Adkins and Jeff Meyer.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Boy Scouts of America, or charity of your choice.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
