Frances Rosetta (Straub) Grotjan October 22, 1910 – December 25, 2018

Frances Rosetta (Straub) Grotjan, age 108, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Brunswick Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Brunswick, MO, on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 2:00 P.M.  Pastor Drewitz officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 1:00-2:00 P.M.  Internment will be held in Elliott Grove Cemetery, Brunswick, MO.

Frances was born in the Brunswick, Missouri Bottom on October 22, 1910.  She was the daughter of William and Ida Cornelia (Tate) Straub.  Frances married G. Kenneth Grotjan on March 14, 1936 at St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage in Brunswick with the Reverend W. J. Bohne officiating.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Carol A. Magruder, one son-in-law, Bob Magruder, one brother, David Straub and his wife Zelma (Susewind) Straub and one nephew, Wayne Straub.

Frances leaves two daughters, Cecilia (W.D. III) Richards of Keytesville and Joyce (Randy) Jones of Brunswick, six grandchildren, twelve great­­­­­­­­-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and five step great-great-grandchildren.  She also leaves one nephew, Dennis R. Straub.

Frances was an active lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a lifelong resident of the Brunswick area and a full-time homemaker.  Frances heard the sermons of every pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, from its founding to the time of her death. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a member of Rucker McAlister American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary.  She was also the Grand Marshall of the 2010 Pecan Festival.

Pallbearers will be Tad Magruder, Bill Richards IV, Ken Richards, Josh Fogle, Tracy Link, and Al Colby.  Honorary pallbearers will be Denny Straub, David Straub, Doug Grotjan, and Donald Lee Grotjan.  Arrangements were under the direction of Breshears Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are to be directed to Elliott Grove Cemetery or St. John’s Lutheran Church and can be dropped off at, or mailed, to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
