Dorothy Elizabeth (Duncan) McGilvray August 31, 1925 – August 25, 2018

Dorothy Elizabeth (Duncan) McGilvray, 92, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Brunswick Nursing Home in Brunswick, MO. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Mendon, MO on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Charlie Littrell officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Newcomer Cemetery in Mendon, MO.

Elizabeth, as she was known by her friends and family, was born on August 31, 1925, in Keytesville, MO, the daughter of Rufus and Myrtle LaVena (Faris) Duncan.  Elizabeth graduated from Keytesville High School.  On August 5, 1946, she married the love of her life, Ralph McGilvray, in Hollywood, CA, on the “Bride and Groom” radio program.  They were blessed with one son, Ronald.

Elizabeth worked for an airplane manufacturing company that built the B-29 bomber while Ralph was called off to war. After the war she became a homemaker.  Elizabeth loved being outdoors doing yardwork and gardening.  She also loved flowers, cooking, working on the farm, and taking care of her family.

Elizabeth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mendon, MO, where she taught Sunday school for numerous years.

She is survived by her son, Ron (Connie) McGilvray of Mendon, MO; two granddaughters, Rachel (Clint) Hunter of Fair Grove, MO, and Amber (Daniel) Hoyt of Bryant, AK; one great-grandchild, Owen Hoyt; a niece, Debra (Gary) Sellers of Keytesville, MO; and one nephew, Mark (Carrie) Duncan of Granite City, IL.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph; her brother, Gene Duncan; and a nephew, Larry Duncan.

Pallbearers will be Bill Brockman, Brian Brockman, Cody Stark, Rusty Blume, Richard Mauzey, and Greg Young.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Stark, Ronnie Garr, Jimmy Daniels, Darryl Young, and Mike Mauzey.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the United Methodist Church in Mendon, MO.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
