Dorothy Jones Clayton September 16, 1926 – October 11, 2017

Dorothy Jones Clayton, 91, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Brunswick Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Brunswick, MO, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Father Boniface Kasiita Nzabonimpa officiating. A Rosary will be said at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, with a visitation following from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Brunswick, MO. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Brunswick, MO.
Dorothy was born September 16, 1926, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Altman) Franciscus. On June 30, 1949, she married Arthur L. Jones. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1997. She married Robert Clayton on August 25, 1999 and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2012.
Dorothy graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City. She attended Kansas City Junior College for two years and Huff Business College for two years, studying to be a court reporter. Later she worked for the DuPont Co. in Kansas City prior to moving to Brunswick in 1949.
She was employed from 1965 to 1983 in various roles at The Brunswicker, including editor from 1978 to 1983. She worked from 1984 to 1993 at the Missouri Division of Family Services in Keytesville.
Dorothy was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar Society in Brunswick. She was the official weather observer for Brunswick for over fifteen years. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, crocheting, traveling, gardening and being “grandma.”
She is survived by her four children: Richard (Barbara) Jones, of Greeneville, TN; Tom Jones, of Clayton, MO; Carol (Nelson) Borys, of Lee’s Summit, MO and Wayne Jones, of Brunswick; grandchildren Jonathan Finkle, of Addison, TX; Tess Jones, of Brunswick; Elizabeth (Chris) Fenwick, of Lee’s Summit, MO; and William Jones, of Morrisville, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Caroline Fenwick, of Lee’s Summit, MO. She is also survived by step-children and step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Finkle, William Jones, Chris Fenwick, Eric Clay, John Stewart, and Mark McCurry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery or the Alzheimer’s Association.
