Ralph Nolan Kennedy December 5, 1923 – August 10, 2017

Ralph Nolan Kennedy, 93, of Brunswick, MO passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Fitzgibbon Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel, Brunswick, MO, Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Lanny Lybarger officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Elliott Grove Cemetery, Brunswick, MO.
Ralph Nolan Kennedy was born on December 5, 1923 in Mendon, MO, the son of James and Bess (McPherson) Kennedy. He graduated from Mendon High School in 1941 and attended the University of Missouri. Ralph loved his country and joined the Marine Corps in March of 1943. In July of 1943 Ralph was sent from San Diego, CA to Wellington, New Zealand for artillery training and was assigned to the 4th BN 10th Marines 2nd Division. On November 21, 1943, he was sent to Betio Island during the battle of Tarawa. On June 15, 1944 Ralph was sent to the battle of Saipan. On July 25, 1944, he was sent to the battle of Tinian. On April 1, 1945 Ralph was sent to the battle of Okinawa. In December of 1945 Ralph shipped out from Sasebo, Japan. It took 29 days for Ralph to arrive back in San Diego, CA. Ralph honorably served his country during World War II in the South Pacific from November 1943 – December 1945. He was honorably discharged on January 29, 1946.
After returning from war Ralph married Marjorie Heisel on December 21, 1946 in Olathe, Kansas. Ralph and Marjorie were blessed with four children, Robert, Ronald, Gloria, and Vernon.
Ralph played professional baseball from 1946 – 1952, owned the Rendezvous bar in Brunswick, MO for 28 years, and was a transport truck driver. Ralph retired in 1993.
Ralph was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Brunswick, MO. He was a lifetime member of the 2nd Marine Division and he was a member of the Rucker McAllister Post #7 for 73 years.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Kennedy, Vernon Kennedy, Bill Kennedy; and one sister, Marjorie Morgan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Marjorie Kennedy; one brother, Donald Kennedy (Betty) of Sedalia, MO; four children, Robert Kennedy (Karen) of Independence, MO, Ronald Kennedy (Karen) of Clinton, MO, Gloria McDaniel (Pat) of Independence, MO, and Vernon Kennedy (Van) of Independence, MO; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matt Kennedy, James Kennedy, Ryan Kennedy, John Kennedy, Pat McDaniel, and Jim Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Grotjan, Rich Mohs, Tom Penick, Dale Sayler, and David Buie.
Memorials can be made to Elliott Grove Cemetery or Old Mendon Cemetery.
