Darlene Elizabeth Hayes

Darlene Elizabeth Hayes, 87, of Brookfield, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016.

Darlene lived graciously for 87 years, 9 months, and 7 days.

She was born June 4, 1928, in Primghar, Iowa, the daughter of Rawley and Clara Elizabeth (Wittneben) Aurand. She graduated from Spencer High School, in Spencer, Iowa in May 1946.

On July 2, 1946, she married Valgene Hayes in Iowa, and they were blessed with four children. Valgene preceded her in death on September 11, 1997.

She was employed by JCPenney during high school and later she worked for Purdin Bank. Early in their marriage, Valgene and Darlene had a dairy farm. Later, they farmed row crops and raised livestock. Darlene loved to drive her wide, front-end 560 tractor. She and Valgene had pecan groves, and she proudly sold Mary Kay cosmetics.

She was very fond of gardening, especially flowers and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When people would see Darlene she would always welcome them with a smile, and would end every conversation with “Thank you and God Bless.” She truly devoted her life to being a woman of faith.

Darlene was a member of Brunswick Baptist Church, and later became a member of Park Baptist Church in Brookfield, Missouri. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for more than 50 years, and led a Bible study group in Salisbury, Missouri. She was active in the Baptist Women’s Group. Darlene served as a 4H leader, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by son David Hayes of Brunswick, Missouri; daughter Valorie Hayes of Brookfield, Missouri; son Rick (Lisa) Hayes of Brunswick, Missouri; daughter Donna (John) Yutz of Callao, Missouri; one sister Ann (Bill) Meyers of Hot Springs, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Richard Hayes, Natalie Hayes, Travis Hayes, Tinna (Lance) Croy, Tania (Ronnie) Sharp, Danielle (Michael) Hamilton, Caleb Hayes, John (Shannon) Yutz, Brian (Rachel) Yutz, Dana Yutz; 12 great-grandchildren Dawson Hayes, Levi Hayes, Pake Croy, Mason Croy, Alex Sharp, Sam Sharp, Ronnie Sharp, Addison Hamilton, Emerson Hamilton, Cooper Hayes, Brycen Maggart, and Elise Yutz.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Rolene Wilshusen, daughter-in-law Jean Ann Hayes, and grandson Tyson Maggart.

Funeral services are Monday, March 14, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Breshears Memorial Chapels, 207 West Broadway, Brunswick, Missouri, with Chaplain Jim Bolen officiating.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. at Breshears Memorial Chapels, Brunswick, Missouri.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in DeWitt, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be John Yutz, Brian Yutz, Caleb Hayes, Tania Sharp, Michael Hamilton, and Tinna Croy.
