James “Jim” Singleton Stephens

James “Jim” Singleton Stephens, 86, of Mendon, MO died on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the North Kansas City Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 12 noon, Gail Brown officiating. Visitation will be at the chapel from 10:30 – 12 noon. Military Honors will be provided by Rucker-McAllister Post # 7 American Legion of Brunswick, MO. Cremation will follow the funeral. He was born on August 14, 1924 in Houstonia, MO the son of Charles and Minnie Ray Stephens. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. He was married to Kathryn DeGan on November 27, 1977 at Independence, MO. Kathryn survives him at the home. He had been a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Local 101 and a farmer. He was a member of the Warren Masonic Lodge # 74 at Keytesville, MO, the American Legion at Sumner, MO and a member of the Mendon Christian Church. He is also survived by six children, Michael Head of Blue Springs, MO, Chris Head of Independence, MO, Dianna Ragland of Jefferson City, MO, Brenda Wilson and her husband Jeff of Independence, MO, DeeDee Walker and her husband Chris of Buckner, MO and David White and his wife Kristi of Blue Springs, MO; one sister-in-law, Almira Stephens of Brookfield, MO and one brother-in-law, Luther Stark of Brunswick, MO; fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers. Memorials may be made to: Kathryn Stephens.
