Pamelia Ann “Pam” (Stark) Tietjens May 28, 1944 – January 11, 2024

Pamelia Ann “Pam” (Stark) Tietjens, 79, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at her home in Brunswick, MO.  Funeral services will be held at the Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 12:00 P.M.  Mark Schuchmann will officiate the service.  Visitation will precede the service on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.  Burial will be in Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, MO.

 

Pam, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on May 28, 1944 in Triplett, MO, the daughter of Luther and Helen (Stephens) Stark.  She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1962, earned her associate degree from Stephen’s College in Columbia, MO, her bachelor’s in education science from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, and then earned her master’s in education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, MO.

In April of 1975, she was united in marriage to Jay Tietjens at the Christian Church in Brunswick, MO.  After 31 years of marriage, he preceded her in passing on October 24, 2006.

Pam was a life-long educator who spent the majority of her teaching career at Fort Osage in Independence, MO, where she taught for 30 years until her retirement in 1997.  Pam was a member of the Brunswick Methodist Church, a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, a member of the National Education Association, the President of the local PEO chapter, a Silver Hair Legislator, a member of Daughter’s of the American Revolution, an American Legion Axillary member, and she was on the Brunswick Alumni Executive Committee as the Nominating Committee Chairman.  She was an avid reader who loved photography, traveling, quilting, learning, playing cards, and being active in our community.

She is survived by her sister, Susan Landers and her husband Terry of Raytown, MO; her significant other, Larry Stephenson of Triplett, MO; her aunt, Almira Stephens of Brookfield; one niece, Rene Purtee and her husband Larry of Raytown, MO; one nephew, Charles Landers and his wife Rachel of Valrico, FL; five great-nephews; one great-niece; one great-great-niece, Hadley Vandeventer; her friend, Ashley Ousley; and she is also survived by numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Helen; and her husband, Jay.

Pallbearers will be Charles Landers, Larry Purtee, Marshall Purtee, Jim Stark, Jason Stark, and Daniel Stephenson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Landers, Mark Landers, Samuel Landers, Benjamin Landers, and Avery Purtee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Helen Stark Scholarship Foundation.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
