Jo Anna (Barnett) Gray November 3, 1932 – December 18, 2023

Jo Anna (Barnett) Gray, 91, formerly of Mendon, MO, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Parkview Health Care Facility in Boliver, MO.  Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church in Mendon, MO, on January 5, 2024, at 11 A.M.  Mark Schuchmann will officiate the service.  Visitation will precede the service, at the church, on January 5, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11 A.M.  Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery in Mendon, MO.

Jo Anna was born on November 3, 1932, in Keytesville, MO, the daughter of Joseph Curry and Anna Belle (Edemann) Barnett.  She graduated from Northwestern High School, Mendon, MO, in 1950, as salutatorian of her class.  Shortly after her graduation, Jo Anna married James Junior Collins.  As well as being a farm wife, she worked for Norris Grocery Store in Mendon, MO, Walsworth Publishing in Marceline, MO, and in 1963 started working for the United States Postal Service in Mendon as a clerk.  In 1971 Jo Anna was appointed as Postmaster and remained the Postmaster for 21 years until her retirement in 1992. In September of 1992, Jo Anna married Rex Gray of Trenton.

Jo Anna loved taking care of her family, cooking, sewing, gardening, reading, and fishing. She especially loved to travel, visiting 44 different states and many foreign countries. Her grandchildren loved the cookies she made them and helping her shell peas and snap green beans from the garden. She was an avid square dancer both in Missouri and Texas where she and Rex spent their winters.  She was a member of the Mendon Christian Church, where she taught a children’s Sunday School class until she moved to Trenton, MO.  She faithfully attended church wherever she lived.  Jo Anna was a member of the Red Hatters, Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, and a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS).  She would attend every NAPUS state and national conventions even after her retirement up until 2013.

Jo Anna is survived by her two children, JR Collins of Reed Springs, MO, and Sharon Wiesner and her husband Mike of Rogersville, MO; six grandchildren, Wesley Collins and his wife Jenny of Lebanon, MO, Derek Collins and his wife DeDe of Fort Worth, TX, Michelle Sopp and her husband Sam of Oklahoma City, OK, Kristi Wiesner and her fiancé Travis Connaway of Houston, TX, Ashley Young and her husband Jack of Overland Park, KS, and Andrew Salmon and his wife Meredith of Alexandria, VA; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Belle; her husbands, Junior Collins and Rex Gray; her daughter, Donna Jo Salmon; one grandson, Brian Wiesner; and her brother, French Barnett and his wife Jean.

Pallbearers will be JR Collins, Wes Collins, Derek Collins, Mike Wiesner, Randy Almond, and Rusty Blume.  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Barnett, Alan Barnett, and Andrew Salmon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mendon Christian Church or Mendon Cemetery.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
