Keith Robert Clayton, 67, formerly of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Story Point Senior Living Center in Waterville, OH.  Funeral services will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.  Pastor Charlie Littrell will officiate the service.  Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.  Burial will be at Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, MO.

Keith was born on December 30, 1955 at Otis Air National Guard Base in Cape Code, MA, the son of Robert “Bob” and Marilyn “Susie” (Wade) Clayton.  Due to Keith’s early interests in space and NASA’s Apollo Space program, his parents arranged for him to travel to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for the Apollo 17 launch, which was the final lunar landing mission in NASA’s Apollo program in December of 1972, Keith was 16.  In 1974, he graduated from Brunswick High School in Brunswick, MO and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in geology from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, and his Bachelor of Science in metallurgical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO.  Keith also traveled to Ireland to study the Gaelic language and became quite fluent in speaking and singing Irish songs.

Keith worked as a metallurgical engineer for Alcoa in Lancaster, PA for 14 years until he retired in 2009.  Keith was a Christian who loved science, especially geology and astronomy, loved photography, coin collecting, and the NASA space program.  As a child, his interest in astronomy and model rocketry led to the purchasing of a large telescope to view the planets and small rocket launches from the back yard of his home in Brunswick.  He also loved reading, listening to music, collecting books and record albums, and playing trivia games with his friends.

Keith is survived by one sister, Susan “Kay” Brunswick and her husband, Daryl, of Perrysburg, OH and one niece, Annie Cranston and her husband, Brian, and their children, River and Reid, of Severna Park, MD; he is also survived by several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Susie; his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Hallie Clayton; and his maternal grandparents, Clifford and Mildred Wade.

Pallbearers will be Mike Spencer, Paul Manson, and Bill Moser.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mitch Spencer and John Heisel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to Elliott Grove Cemetery.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
