Richard Daniel McCurry November 30, 1962 – January 7, 2023
Richard Daniel McCurry, 60, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO. Funeral mass services will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick, MO on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. Father Joseph Luzindana and Father Joseph Ssemanda will officiate the service. Visitation will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Brunswick, MO. Military honors will be performed by Brunswick American Legion Post #7.
Rick, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on November 30, 1962 in Moberly, MO, the son of Laurance and Virginia (Reichert) McCurry. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1981. On June 8, 1981, he enlisted into the United States Army National Guard and trained as a military policeman. Rick honorably served in the Army National Guard for three years earning the sharpshooter badge for the M-16, marksman badge for hand grenades, and expert badge for the P7 handgun.
In 1984, Rick enlisted into the United States Coast Guard. During his time of service with the Coast Guard, Rick earned a commendation ribbon with two stars, the sea service ribbon, the national defense service ribbon with one star, bicentennial unit commendation ribbon, meritorious team commendation ribbon, meritorious unit commendation ribbon, humanitarian service ribbon with two stars, commandants letter of commendation ribbon with three stars, good conduct award, and the secretary’s award for outstanding achievement. Rick honorably served in the Coast Guard until his retirement on September 3, 2001.
After his retirement from the Coast Guard, Rick worked as a maintenance man for McCurry Enterprises for 6 years. Rick was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick, MO, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Brunswick American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, wood working, carpentry, and having a good time with his family and friends.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Penny; his mother, Virginia McCurry of Brunswick, MO; three sons, Daniel McCurry and his wife, Kaitlyn, of Carrollton, MO, Matthew McCurry and his wife, Katelyn, of Chillicothe, MO, and Anthony McCurry and his wife, Erin, of Brunswick, MO; three step-children, Lindsay Prater and her husband, Clayton, of Overland Park, KS, Janie Fitzpatrick of Wichita, KS, and Royce Young and his wife, Cassie, of Marshall, MO; seven siblings, Greg McCurry and his wife, Lisa, of Plano, TX, Mike McCurry and his wife, Barbara, of Kingsville, MO, Carol Manson and her husband, Tuck, of Salisbury, MO, Debbie Strodtman and her husband, Bruce, of Salisbury, MO, Larry McCurry and his wife, Kathy, of Brookfield, MO, Kelly McCurry and his wife, Samantha, of Platte City, MO, and Mark McCurry of Brunswick, MO; he is also survived by two grandchildren, Carson McCurry and Barrett McCurry and two step-grandchildren, Silas Young and Addyson Scott.
He was preceded in death by his father, Laurance, and three siblings in infancy.
Pallbearers will be Greg McCurry, Mike McCurry, Larry McCurry, Kelly McCurry, Mark McCurry, and Paul Yung. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Jenkins, Tom Kussman, and Henry Straub.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to Brunswick American Legion Post #7. Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
