Donald Leland Grotjan, Jr. August 7, 1936 – July 9, 2022
Donald Leland Grotjan Jr., 85, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at his home in Keytesville, MO. Funeral services will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. Reverend Lanny Lybarger will officiate the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery in Dalton, MO. Military honors will be performed by Brunswick American Legion Post #7.
Donald was born in rural Brunswick, MO on August 7, 1936, the son of Donald Sr. and Billye (Gottschalk) Grotjan. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1954. On January 16, 1956, Donald enlisted into the United States Army. During his time of service, Donald earned the marksman (M-1) badge. He honorably served his country until January 5, 1958.
After returning home from the service, Donald married the love of his life, Linda Meyer, on June 8, 1958 at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Dalton, MO. Together they were blessed with two children, Amber and Donald III.
Donald worked for Archer Daniels Midland in Brunswick, MO for 6 years, MFA in Brunswick, MO for 20 plus years (17 years as the manager), and all the while ran his family farm, which he continued to do after his retirement from MFA. He was on the Levee board, the Dalton Cemetery board, the Immanuel United Methodist Church board, and was a former member of the Keytesville Lions Club. He was confirmed in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MO and later became a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Dalton, MO. Donald loved family get-togethers, was an avid reader who also enjoyed wood working and taking care of the family farm.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Linda; his daughter, Amber Grotjan of Keytesville, MO; his son, Donald Grotjan III of Brunswick, MO; three grandchildren, Amanda Britt of Anabel, MO, Jennifer Fessler and her husband Dean of Keytesville, MO, and Justin Link and his wife Kristy of Keytesville, MO; five great-grandchildren, Hank Britt, Wyatt Britt, Lane Fessler, Max Fessler, and Kolton Fessler; and one niece, Ami Strange and her husband James of Kansas City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Sr. and Billye, and his brother, Larry Grotjan.
Pallbearers will be Justin Link, Dean Fessler, Johnny Meyer, Greg Grotjan, Doug Grotjan, and Bill Richards. Honorary pallbearers will be Hank Britt, Wyatt Britt, Lane Fessler, Max Fessler, and Kolton Fessler.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to Dalton cemetery. Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
