Thomas Eugene Penick June 27, 1944 – June 24, 2022
Thomas Eugene Penick, 77, of Brunswick, MO passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. Memorial services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Brunswick, MO on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. Mark Schuchmann and Reverend John Pinkston II will officiate the service. Visitation will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 5:00 – 6:30 P.M. No graveside services will be held.
Thomas, Tom, or Tommy, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on June 27, 1944 in Moberly, MO, the son of Oliver and Marjorie (Bachtel) Penick. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1962. On February 18, 1978, Tommy married the love of his life, Jill Mitsch, at the United Methodist Church in Brunswick, MO. Together they were blessed with one daughter, Emily.
Tommy was a lifelong row crop and livestock farmer. He also worked at MFA Oil in Brunswick, MO for almost 20 years. Tommy was a member of the Arrowhead Saddle Club for 45 years, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), a lifelong member of the Brunswick United Methodist Church, and would also attend the Cowboy Church in Blue Mound, MO. He would often be found supporting local organizations and events, which included 4-H, FFA, the Arrowhead Saddle Club Rodeo, the St. Jude trail ride, a number of high school and agricultural activities, and would supply horses for the annual Pecan Festival. Tommy loved spending time with his family, riding horses, country music, reading western novels, and studying his Bible.
Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Jill; one daughter, Dr. Emily Penick and her husband Matthew Gritzmacher of Southern Pines, North Carolina; one stepdaughter, who Tom loved as his own, Caroline Ernst and her husband Harold of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Judy Kay McVeigh and her husband Carroll of Clinton, MO; and two nieces, Kay Lynn Pennell and Susan Weiner and their respective families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Marjorie Penick.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Sanders, Randy Nolke, Matthew Gritzmacher, Matt Reichert, Kenny Reichert, Randy Fidler, and Randy Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel at 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
