Lennie Elizabeth (Johnson) Lukehart August 25, 1936 – May 12, 2022
Lennie Elizabeth Johnson Lukehart, 85, of Brunswick, MO, died on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO. Visitation will be held on June 2, 2022, at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on June 3, 2022, at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO, at 10:00 a.m. Mark Schuchmann will officiate the service. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in rural Keytesville, MO.
Lennie was born on August 25, 1936, in Salisbury, MO, the daughter of Claude and Helen (Edwards) Johnson. Often, she talked about how wonderful it was to grow up on the farm. She graduated salutatorian from Keytesville High School in 1954. On June 16, 1954, Lennie was united in marriage to Jack Lukehart on the Johnson family farm in the hills in Keytesville, MO. Together they were blessed with four children: Steven, Lisa, Julie, and Angela.
Lennie and Jack lived in Columbia where she worked at MFA and at the law office of Warren Welliver. They moved to Chicago and then Atlanta where she worked for the Milton Barber Ad Agency. In 1963, they moved to Brunswick. She worked with Jack in his law office. Lennie completed her associate’s degree from Moberly Area Community College. She enjoyed substitute teaching at the Brunswick School. Later, she moved to Columbia where she worked for several years at the Boone County Circuit Clerk’s Office and then Mid Missouri Mental Health Center until her retirement. She took pride in being a secretary.
She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Columbia. When the children were young, she was busy taking them to their activities, being a girl scout leader, and she was always involved in community events. Lennie was a member of the Extension Club and the Eastern Star. Also, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Lennie enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Lennie is survived by three children, Steven Lukehart and his wife Judy of Lincoln, NE, Julie Jones of Columbia, MO, and Angela Lukehart Guest and her husband Lonnie of Brunswick, MO; six grandchildren, Mike Lukehart of Lincoln, NE, Alex Groves and his wife Natasha of Lincoln, NE, Tara Bowne and her husband Ryan of Omaha, NE, Elizabeth Wiedmeyer and her husband Ryan of Columbia, MO, Evan Guest of Brunswick, MO, and Rebecca Guest of Keytesville, MO; nine great-grandchildren; nieces Jennifer Prim, Kerri Johnson-Foote, and Deborah Lentz and nephew Lanny Foutz; several great-nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Charlene Johnson of Texas and Mary Foutz and her husband Jim of Columbia, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; an infant daughter, Lisa Lynn; her great-grandson, Ryker Bowne; her brother Donald Johnson, two nephews, Randie Lukehart and Danny Foutz; a niece, Pam Lukehart; and her brother-in-law and his wife, Randall and Rita Lukehart.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital in St. Louis. Donations can be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 West Broadway, Brunswick, MO 65236.
