James David Gilman August 10, 1970 – April 7, 2021

James David Gilman, 50, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in Keytesville, MO. A celebration of life service will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on April 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Mark Schuchmann will officiate the service. The service will be live streamed on Jeni Gilman Toennies’ Facebook page. No visitation will be held.  privat

Jim was born on August 10, 1970 in Aberdeen, SD, to David and Lois (Kirschenman) Gilman. Jim graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1988. He attended Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, SD and graduated with an Associate’s degree in electronics.

In 1997, Jim moved to St. Joseph, MO where he began his career with BNSF. Over the next 24 years, Jim thrived with the railroad, eventually settling in Keytesville. Jim made many valued and lasting friends and was proud to be a part of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.

Jim loved to cook and especially loved doing crafts and spending time with his children who were the light of his life. He loved to read, watch Cardinal’s baseball, and ride his motorcycle. He enjoyed talking to the people of Brunswick and Keytesville who he considered his family. Jim will always be remembered for his infectious smile, friendly wave, and quick wit.

Jim is survived by his mother of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Richard (Kate Chard) Gilman; Cincinnati, OH; sister Debbie Gilman, Sioux Falls, SD; sister Jenifer (Brett) Toennies, Cresbard, SD; three children, two stepchildren, and six nephews, all who love him so much and will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Jenkins, DJ Elliott, Kevin Meyer, Craig McIntire, Allen Dowell, Jerry Moore, Tony Trego, Matt Swan, and Paul Vikander.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Breshears Memorial Chapel to help with funeral expenses. Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
