Hysel LeRoy Norris August 22, 1942 – February 24, 2021

Hysel LeRoy Norris, 78, formally of Chariton County, MO, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at his home in Independence, MO.  A memorial service will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick, MO on March 6, 2021 at 1:00 P.M.  Asa Groves will officiate the service.  Visitation will precede the service from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M.  Burial will be in McCullough Cemetery in Triplett, MO.

Hysel was born on August 22, 1942 in Lathrop, MO, the son of Lester Leroy and Naomi Ruth (Groves) Norris.  He attended Northwestern High School in Mendon, MO.  On May 22, 1960 he married Lila Lee Nixon in Sumner, MO.  Together they were blessed with three children, Dawn, Randy, and Rhonda.  Lila preceded Hysel in passing after 43 years of marriage on April 16, 2004.

In his younger years Hysel was a row crop farmer in Chariton County, MO.  In 1970 they moved to Independence, MO and he became warehouse worker for Kroeger Grocery, which is where he worked until he retired.

Hysel was a Christian man who loved his family, hunting deer, ducks, geese, and quail, fishing for crappie and catfish, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Hysel is survived by his children, Dawn Elaine Lewis of Bethany, MO, Randy DeWayne Norris of Marble Hill, MO, and Rhonda ReNae Howard and her husband William of Independence, MO; seven grandchildren, Brandy Norris and her husband Eric Wheeler, Jeremy Braden and his wife Laura, Misty Loving, Rachel Norris and her husband Joe Ocobock, Nikki Pratt, Randy Norris II and his significant other Jayme Koontz, and Alisha Braden all of Independence, MO; twenty great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Helen Domann of Independence, MO, Glyn Norris of Brunswick, MO; and Wilma Chandler of Independence, MO.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lila; his parents; and his brother, Bennie Norris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Norris, William Howard, Jeremy Braden, Randy Norris II, and Auston Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to McCullough Cemetery.  Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
