Gerald Duane Davis September 4, 1931 – November 5, 2020

Gerald Duane Davis, 89, of Eldon, MO, formally of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, MO after a brief illness with COVID.  A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date with military honors.

Gerald was born on September 4, 1931 in Lucas, KS, the son of Howard and Opal (McVey) Davis.  He attended and graduated from high school in Lucas, KS in 1950. On January 24, 1951 he enlisted into the United States Army.  During his time of service Gerald earned the Parachute Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  He honorably served his country until January 23, 1953.

On May 1, 1953 he was united in Marriage to his first wife Shirley Mae Lawson.  She preceded him in passing in 1987.  Gerald was remarried on November 30, 1991 to Evelyn Clark in DeWitt, MO.  Evelyn also preceded Gerald in passing in 2011.

Gerald was the manager of the Lumber Company in Wellington, KS for 23 years.  Later he was a building materials salesman for Case Supply in Kansas City, KS and Central Dealers in Jefferson City, MO until disability forced his retirement.

Gerald loved his family and friends, Chiefs Football, Royals baseball, collecting coins, fishing, camping, and playing games.

He was a member of the Elks Club in Wellington, KS, the American Legion in Luray, KS, and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wellington, KS.

Gerald is survived by two sons from his first marriage, Barry Davis (Debbie) of Lake Ozark, MO and Brian Davis (Lissa) of Naples, FL; his daughter-in-law Linda Davis Shoup (Tim) of Ponca City, OK; nine grandchildren, Lindsey Willow, Dereck Davis, Dustin Davis, Aaron Davis, Brandon Davis, Colby Davis, Britney Davis Purdom, Bryce Davis, and Braden Davis; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lexi, Desiree and Brice Willow, Charla Davis, Brockton Davis, Landon Davis, Camden Davis, Kingston Davis, Emmy Purdom, and Braxton Davis with two more blessings on the way.  From his second marriage Gerald is survived by one step-daughter, Ervina Kahler (Jim) of Raymore, MO; two step-sons, Jerry McCollum (Linda) of Excelsior Springs, MO and Richard McCollum (Lois) of Kansas City, MO; four step-grandchildren, and 7 step-great-grandchildren. Gerald is survived by one sister, Carol Naylor (Gerald) of Lucas, KS; and three sisters-in-law, Winnie Davis of Lee’s Summit, MO, Patsy Wells (Charles) of Slaughter, KY, and Marie Hearn of Wichita, KS.  Gerald also had a great friend during his time at Rock Island Village, Howard Vann who he knew when he was a salesman and became reacquainted as they were both residents.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; one son, Brent Davis; one stepson, Ronnie McCullom; and four brothers, Dean Davis, Dale Davis, Delbert Davis, and Donald Davis.
